Jetlane: An Indie Racing Game

Some days you just wake up and want to race. Today was one of those days for me. In a racing game most game characteristics are same across the board, such as usually in a racing game you are racing someone. So, I looked for things to stand out besides basic game mechanics. With Jetlane you get all the above, graphics, sound, and cool racing vehicles. Bottom Line: If you like the idea of racing in futuristic outer-space, go for Jetlane.

Canvasser: An Indie Strategy Game

This is the first strategy game I have reviewed and I have to say it's a good one! In this game you  play a character that hears about efforts to clear-cut a forest and helps out by canvassing. Canvassing is when volunteers/employees go out in public and try to get people to donate to their cause. In this case, the cause is to save Evergreen Forest by raising $6,000. This is kind of weird, but one of my favorite features of this game is the cool clicking sounds. For a strategy, its rather upbeat and fun, not bland like others.

Snowl: An Indie Bowling Game

Yes, this is a bowling game. Yes, many people don't like bowling. With that said I wasn't expecting much when I clicked on Snowl. What I found was an awesome little game that allowed me to bowl a snowball that grew in size and knocked down penguins. As I read that sentence I realize that it seems a tad underwhelming, but trust me this game is worth your time.

A-B-City-E: An Indie Puzzle Game

This is the most fun I've had on a puzzle game in a long time. In A-B-City-E you construct things by spelling them. You start out with a town hall and use the letters you have to build anything that comes to your mind. This game has the right mix of puzzle and fun, because sometimes puzzles are no fun. Bottom Line: For a puzzle game this is a lot of fun! Be sure to check it out!

Undead Rider: An Indie Action Game

Undead Rider is the most fun I've had in a long time with an Indie game. In this game there is an undead person slouched on a motorcycle, with the goal being to ride it all the way to the tomb. You have to be very careful when you control the motorcycle because the undead guy has no control over his bodily movements, thus making it very difficult to drive. Bottom Line: I really like this game. It's the most fun I've had in a long time. Its a must-play game.

The 80th Second: An Indie Game

The 80th Second is a one-of-a-kind game. In this game you visit an orchestral caravan that is getting ready for a performance, but on the 80th second a bomb goes off. The bomb kills everyone and you are tasked with going back in time to discover the perpetrator. This game is definitely one of the coolest games where sound is concerned because as you walk by the different orchestral performers, their instrument is added to the background music. Bottom Line: If you want to play a game that makes you think, this is the game for you.

To Survive 2: A Beautiful Indie FPS Shooter

To Survive 2 feels like a mix of Call of Duty Zombies and MW3 with a little bit of Indie ghetto-fabulous flavor. In the title I called this game beautiful. That's because the graphics are very good to say the least. With those great graphics does come a demand for higher CPU capabilities, so if you don't have a top-tier computer expect to be lagging out of your mind. In the game you face wave after wave of armed combatants, which poses a challenge because of the shear volume of people shooting at you. Luckly the mental abilities of your enemies are somewhere around that of 3rd graders, so you can hide pretty effectively. Bottom line: Great graphics make this FPS stand out, but you better have a good computer.

Broken Love Exclusive Preview!

Broken Love is an Indie Horror set to come out in 2014. The creator, HecticGames, was nice enough to give us the inside scoop on the game.

Broken love is a horror adventure game coming out in 2014. You have lost your wife, you have lost everything. However, in 1960 you fall into a coma and wake up in 1970 and everyone has gone and doors are barried up so its harder to escape. Therefore you have to escape this hotel and find your family. BUT YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

The game will contain: a flashlight, various pick ups and abilitys and jumpscares. I came up with the idea when i was working on another game with my friend (Within Deep Sorrows). I am mainly focused on the graphics and the jumpscares in this game and hoping to develop a new logo. Following on from this, I love making scary games so I am hoping to develop another Broken Love in the furture.

Correspond: An Indie FPS Game

You want a quick loading FPS with multiplayer, good graphics, and cool guns to run around and shoot with? Then look no further than Correspond. Best of all, no download! Just click on the link below and a few quick seconds later you will be going Rambo. The creator of the game, Gerixgames, was nice enough to write a good little article on his new invention.

I came up with the idea for correspond when I was watching a trailer for MW3 and I was thinking why all the FPS games had to be made by some AAA company. So I started tossing around an idea that turned into Correspond. The development process was pretty fun mainly because I had never done anything like it. I had made games before but when I was introduced to gamejolt.com my game development career completely changed. When I was done with the beta version of Correspond I put it up on gamejolt and it was instantly pretty popular. In the first month I was already at 1.5k plays and 2k views and that was really awesome. And I have no one else to thank but the community on gamejolt. :D You guys are awesome.

Lunacy-The Darkness: An Indie Horror + An Article From The Creator

Lunacy-The Darkness was a joy to play. In the indie horror genre alot of the time you see emphasis placed on the fear-inducing side of things, but with Lunacy not only are you scared but you also have a game to play. The little touches are what I like about this game, like the in-game timer that lets you know how long you have been playing. The sound in this game is also an upside. Not only is it tension building but also it is clean audio, which is always a plus. Overall, this game is one of my favorite horror games so far. Robby, the creator of this game, was nice enough to write an article about how this game came into fruition.

This game started off as an idea I had one day, with the main character performing a ritual which would "link" him to the moon, physically and mentally. What happens is the spirit that rests within the moon would awaken and then trigger the "Lunar Influence". I speak of Lunar Influence when a person is trapped within his/her own head, inside a world that the spirit "generates" for him/her to go through. But this character, however, shows a higher grade of intelligence, and that is where the player steps in, surviving EVERY challenge the spirit does.

And now, to the enemy that is seen in Beta #1.1:
The spirit itself is capable of assuming any form it wants. In the character's case, an engineer-like suit is the look the spirit assumes. He is a bit fast, but he has no chance if you're running, but trying to run around him is a clear mistake. He turns towards you too quickly, so running away is the only option. If he gets you, instant death.

And in the near future, in Beta #2, he will receive an upgrade, known as "Fire Orb". Since he can't catch you that easily, he will summon so-called "fire orbs" in order to stall you. These little beasties, you do not want to fool around with these things. They are really quick, which means that outrunning them is not an option, but you can go around them, since they turn towards you slowly, and they are not exactly insta-kill. They get too close to you 2 times, you are dead.

Anymore, and the game won't be too interesting. Play it for yourself and you shall be able to understand it partially.

~Robby!

And Everything Started To Fall: A Metaphoric Indie Platform Game

"...And everything started to fall." Sounds like the end to hard hitting, deeply resounding, thought provoking, intergalactic time shifting poem. Alexitron, the creator, threw all that into a game. This is the type of game that people become indie fans for. Not only is it a well made game, but also the underlying message makes you think, something  most people like to do. In this game you play a boy, from birth to death, as he experiences life. Often paths will diverge, only to come together later. The best way to describe this game is to call it what it truly is, a piece of art.

Holy Crap: An Indie Arcade Game

Holy Crap, the best religious arcade game ever? Yes. An arcade game can't get any better than a pooping angel aiming his crap into a toilet and dodging bibles. I wasn't expecting much when I click on a game called Holy Crap, but all my expectations were blown away. The creator and developer, A Fox In The Wires, was kind enough to describe how this game came into creation.

I was sitting there, thinking about odd things , and I found myself settling on the subject of common phrasings. Mainly, the origins thereof. One of the phrases that my mind seemed to be stuck on was, "holy crap." I mean... who first thought of that? As I explored it more, I just kept getting the image of an angel taking a dump, and it was at this point that I said to myself, "The world needs a game about an angel pooping. I am doing this. This is happening."

Bottom Line: If you haven't played this you must. Its an experience in itself.

Helic: An Indie Flight Simulator

Helic is an indie flight simulation game. Great graphics and easy controls made it an instant hit for me. You can pilot one of three helicopters and fly in set missions or survival mode(all out dogfights). I think a multiplayer mode would make this game very popular. Bottom line: This game is easy and fun to play and with clear graphics and seamless maneuvering there is nothing to complain about.

Wolfstein 3-D Rearmed: An Indie Arcade Shooter

Wolfenstein 3d - Rearmed

Wolfstein 3-D is a truly awesome arcade shoot-em-up game. This game had me hooked for a half an hour. In this game you play an agent who is trying to steal back the Spear of Destiny, a relic that the Nazi's had stolen. You start out with a knife and move your way up from a pistol to a machine gun as you kill gun-wielding Nazi's. Along the way you collect treasures and secrets which count for extra points in the end. Bottom Line: This game has certain addictive qualities that I enjoy. Check it out and see if you get the same enjoyment.

White Fingers: An Indie Horror

White Fingers places you in a labyrinth of underground tunnels with one goal, escape. Well, that's easier said than done, especially when you are ready to jump out of your shoes at every corner. I am a huge fan of the developer of this game, Armitage, who also developed Innawoods, another game on this blog. This game is guaranteed to give you that horror thrill that we all love. With good graphics and a creepy soundtrack, whats not to like?

HTML Indie Games

Recently, I have come across two rather entertaining HTML games that I thought were noteworthy.

Stanley The Old Man
The Bored Programer

Jarl: An Indie Arcade Game

Jarl is a minesweeper-like arcade game. In the game you play "@" , an 'at' symbol with curious dungeon searching intentions. You can pick up items, like daggers, and fight off the "O"s also known as Orcs. You gain Dungeon XP the more you kill the orcs and can advance levels. Bottom Line: If you like minesweeper you will like this game.

Unmanned: An Indie Game

Unmanned is a mini-game story based on a day in the live of an unmanned drone operator. This is a really cool 10 minute game that is entertaining. Good graphics make it pleasant to look at and the mini games are very fun too. Not too much makes up the game besides that!

Blockford Adventure: An Indie Arcade Game

Blockford Adventure is the biggest thing since Super Mario Bros. Well maybe not that big, but still awesome. This game is very polished compared to other indie games. The menu is clean, font is clear, maps are flawless and best of all the sound effects are beautiful to the ears. I would recommend this game 100% to any fans of arcade games. Bottom Line: Blockford Adventure gives you a polished, modern alternative to the classics, plus a game put out by someone called Porkchop Productions has to be awesome.

I Remember The Rain: An Indie Interactive Story

I Remember the Rain is a short interactive story. It takes about 7 minutes to get through it so there is not that much to explain, but it is definitely worth watching.

Developer Spotlight- Scimitri

Quest For Quince
Scimitri has recently released a new game, Quest for Quince, now available on gamejolt.com. This game is busting at the seams with creativity, from the wacky storyline to the cartoon-like characters and the interesting levels, this game is fun to watch and play. To download click the button below. Check out his other games at http://gamejolt.com/profile/scimitri/28554/

Digital: A Love Story: An Indie Game/Romance Novel

The best way to describe Digital is to say it will never be repeated. This game is so one-of-a-kind that you feel nostalgic while playing it. This game is set in 1988, pre-world-wide-web, and you play a character that receives the ability to "dial in" to a BBS and communicate with various people, including Emilia (the love interest). The first few minutes of things are rather confusing on this game as you aren't familiar with 1988 computers, but you soon will and things will flow like clock-work. After 20 minutes of sending and replying to messages it gets rather dull, boring, and hard to internalize. If you set down and play the game to its end it will take 3 or 4 hours. Thats why I treated like I was back in 1988 and played the game as if I was really sending emails. I woke up checked my real email, then my Digital email and I found that much more enjoyable. Bottom Line: This game is cool, but pace yourself so you can really enjoy it for what it is.

The Deep: An Indie Scavenger Hunt

The Deep

The Deep is an indie scavenger hunt set in the bottom of an ocean. You play a scuba diver who has assignments, such as taking pictures of fish or rummaging through a shipwreck. This game nails the atmosphere with a wonderful visual environment and the relaxing sound of an underwater scuba diver.I played this game for around 15 minutes and barely made a dent in it, so it is hard and takes some time. Sadly, this is a one time play because this game only has one map. So if you are looking for a game to occupy and relax you for a good hour this is the one, otherwise pass.

Innawoods: An Indie FPS Survival Game

Innawoods is a one of a kind game. It features 3 different game modes and one multiplayer mode. In this game you are in the woods (if you werent already aware) being hunted by an unknow military force. You must evade or shoot these military combatants while trying to survive. You slowly run out of food and water as the game progresses, but you can replenish them by killing animals and jumping into a waterway/river. The three game modes are classic, warzone, and 2spooky4you, my personal favorite. In classic mode you try to survive as long as possible. In warzone, you are premissed with the fact that an evac helicopter will arrive in 12 hours (an hour passes in a minute or two) and you must survive until then. In 2spooky4you, your car ran out of gas and you must collect 6 gas cans that are spread across the map, while being pursued by zombies. They also have a multiplayer mode which is lots of fun. I was very impressed with the ADS (aiming down sights) it seemed very polished for an indie game. Overall, I was impressed by the game and was actually surprised by how much I liked it.

7Days: An Indie Horror.

This game should be looked at as more of an experience than a game. 7Days balances confusion, fear and mystery simultaneously while you wonder through an abandoned house a day at a time. The atomosphere of the game is terrorizing from the creapy soundtrack to the lurking shadows. If you are looking for a "Slender Man" experience look no further than this game, 7Days is guaranteed to give you the jump-scares and thrills expected from a horror movie.
